“Discovering Grace on Appleton Ridge” follows the adventures of Hal and Liz Tuttle as they discover life in Downeast Maine. Nothing in their past could have prepared them for the hilarious and quirky characters they meet in their new calling to Appleton Community Church. This lighthearted and humorous story takes on a more serious tone when a distraught young woman contemplates suicide. Fortunately, the new minister and his wife just happen to be in the right place at the right time. Averted tragedy leads to redemption when a rescued soul discovers grace, forgiveness, and the embrace of God and a church family. You will smile, laugh, and shed tears of joy as you witness lives changed by the power of love.
Weldon M. Clarkson grew up in France, Quebec, and on the Coast of Maine. He has served churches in New England, France, and Greece. He is currently on the staff of a church in Florida. He met his wife in Portland, Maine and they have three grown children born in three different countries.
I fell in love with the Coast of Maine when I was a teenager attending a private academy in Glen Cove, Maine. I grew to appreciate the sunrise over Penobscot Bay, helping pull lobster traps on the “Laura” and going to church...or “chuch” with my friend Kerwin in his bright yellow Chevy convertible.
I have resided in half a dozen countries and visited thirty-some others. Although nearby Florida beaches are attractive, my heart longs for Penobscot Bay, where I dream of retiring. In the meantime, join me in discovering coastal Maine, its unique accent, and the people who inspired this story.
Weldon Clarkson follows the tradition of Maine "Bert & I" storytellers like Marshall Dodge, Bob Bryan and Tim Sample.

The Maine Wild Blueberry Festival at Union Fair was born in 1960 as a method of promoting the industry in Maine. The secondary goal of the festival was to find the best blueberry pie maker in the coastal area. Mrs. George Cole won that competition. Another feature of that original festival day was the junior pie eating contest won by Willard Pease. Choosing a Blueberry Queen became an added feature in 1961. Each contestant had to be sponsored by a blueberry packer or processor and would be chosen to represent the industry for a year. There were 13 contestants and Monalee Smith became Union Fair’s first queen. Union Fair was so committed to the festival that it petitioned legislature which formally changed our title to Union Fair, Maine Wild Blueberry Festival.
